Guidance on Protecting Personal Data Privacy in the Use of Social Media and Instant Messaging Apps from PCPD
Social media and instant messaging apps are widely used by people in Hong Kong. However, the use of social media and instant messaging apps carries inherent yet non-negligible risks to users’ privacy in relation to personal data.
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data ("PCPD") has issued a “Guidance on Protecting Personal Data Privacy in the Use of Social Media and Instant Messaging Apps” to highlight the privacy risks involved and provide practical advice that will help to mitigate the risks.
The Guidance can be downloaded via the link below:

Besides, the PCPD will hold a Webinar titled “Social Media and You” on 3 May 2021 to provide the users of social media and instant messaging apps with some practical advice on safeguarding personal data and avoiding falling prey on online scams.
