Run With Your Heart EAA was 1st Runner-up in raising fund
On the New Year's Eve of 2004, 12 staff members of the EAA braved the freezing weather and participated as a team in the annual charity event, "Run with Your Heart". Each team member took a turn to run on the track in a 12-hour relay run from midday to midnight. Mr Stanley To, Senior Manager (Professional Development), courageously ran the first leg; Ms Sandy Chan, Chief Executive Officer, completed the race by running the final leg.
The event, held at the Athletic Track at the Hong Kong Sports Institute, Shatin, was more than simply a run. The Sports Institute was one of the city's favourite spots for new year countdown. More importantly, it was also a platform for the general public to show love and care for each other, and to remember the needy while enjoying the festive occasion. The run helped raise funds for the Regeneration Society and the Elite Athlete Charitable Trust. Part of the funds was also donated to in the Tsunami's relief operation.
Ms Amy Chan Lim Chee, BEM, Honourary Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association and a Member of the EAA, extended her thanks to the EAA staff for their support of the event, "It is heartening to see staff members of the EAA display their team spirit, love and care for the needy group in the community through their active participation in this meaningful event."
"I believe that we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Ms Sandy Chan, the Chief Executive Officer added. "Besides raising fund for the needy, the charity run is also an opportunity to challenge our team's perseverance and determination, which are essential qualities in the EAA's role as a regulator."
Thanks to the generous support from donors, the EAA team not only completed the race, but also won the first runner-up prize for the Most Funds Raised Team Award out of over 100 participating teams!
